A homeowner in Oregon City wanted a real outdoor living space instead of an unused stretch of driveway, so the plan called for a full timber-frame covered patio built onto the back of the home: a vaulted, tongue-and-groove ceiling, structural post-and-beam framing, and electrical for lighting and a ceiling fan, all designed and finished from the ground up.
The Project
This was a design-and-finish residential build. Heritage Electric worked from the framing stage through final trim, planning circuit runs and fixture locations before the roof structure was closed in, then coming back for rough-in and finish once the space was framed, sheathed, and painted. The scope covered recessed can lighting throughout the vaulted ceiling, a switched circuit for a ceiling fan with integrated light, and general-purpose receptacles for the new outdoor living space.
Why This Approach
A covered patio addition lives or dies on how well the electrical is planned before the ceiling closes up. Running wire through open rafters is straightforward; running it through a finished, painted tongue-and-groove ceiling is not. Our team mapped out fixture spacing and circuit routing while the roof framing was still exposed, so every recessed light and the ceiling fan box landed exactly where the homeowner wanted it, with no visible patches or rework once the finish ceiling went up.
Because this is an exterior structure attached to an existing home, we also coordinated the new circuits back to the main panel with proper weather-rated connections, so the space is safe to use year-round in Pacific Northwest weather.
Project Result
The finished patio gives the homeowner a fully usable outdoor room: even, glare-free recessed lighting across the whole ceiling and a ceiling fan that keeps the space comfortable through the warmer months. The electrical was planned and installed before the finish work covered it up, so the result is clean, code-compliant, and built to last as long as the structure itself.
